Our Mission:

Our mission is to build stronger communities while reducing consumption and waste. We accomplish this the best way possible - by giving things away! What better way to improve the world is there than to give something away that you no longer need? You have more space, and they have that thing they always wanted! Everyone wins!

The best part of giving things away is the good feeling of helping people out, as well as the liberating feeling of simply having less clutter in your life. You know that great feeling you get after having just cleaned your place? Yeah, it's like that. No stress, no clutter, helping people. That's what FreeMesa is about.

Proper FreeMesa Etiquette

The goal of FreeMesa is not just to give to the poor. Our goal is to help make lives better for everyone. Also, it is not about getting as much free stuff as possible. Stocking your house full of clutter will not improve your life, even if the clutter is free. Excess stuff rarely makes people happy. Please keep this in mind, and ask only for things that you would legitimately have a use for. If it should be thrown away, please throw it away. Giving people garbage doesn't help anyone, and throwing it out saves the hassle. In all things, please be polite and respectful of your fellow members. We are all here for the same reasons, so please keep this in mind.

Offers

When you post an OFFER, you are offering to give someone a gift. You can give this gift to whomever you feel would be the best recipient. You can decide to give the gift to whomever they wish, based on whatever criteria you wish. So if the first respondent is rude in requesting the item, you need not feel guilty about passing over him and selecting the next.

Also, if the recipient shows up, and it turns out that they had different expectations about the item offered, and don't take it, don't be offended. There was a miscommunication. These things happen, and there is no reason to get bent out of shape. All you need to do is simply offer it to the next guy. The same goes for the recipient, what you are looking for will come up sooner or later, so there is no reason to ruin your day over someone trying to give you what they think you want.

Requests

When you request an Item, you are requesting a gift. Most of the time, no one will be able to give it to you. However, sometimes, someone has that item propping up the couch, or in the closet serving as a table for 20 year old National Geographics. Please remember you are asking for a gift when they contact you. Being rude to the person who wants to give you something may result in your item being given to someone else entirely.
